The subjects that I have read within a couple of the reviews are some-what true, but to get the real truth, you must take into account the entire movie, not just one scene. Clearly, it's shown throughout the movie that she goes through these events in her life not because she was purposefully searching for them but because she was trying to survive-thinking she had nothing left to loose, she tried almost everything. I believe that it is about a woman trying to survive and find happiness in life away from her family, but I don't think that she's necessarily trying to find her purpose for being put on this earth. This is just one example of what I don’t believe that this film is about. Many of the reviews of Memories of Matsuko suggest that the film is about a woman trying to find her purpose in life.
